CPU consumption general question

Are your recorded items in Wave format, or are they in Wavpack, MP3, Ogg, or other compressed format? Uncompressing on the fly and resampling on the fly are the two biggest culprits for high non-FX CPU use. Scott

Disk Access Times 

If disk access times are a concern, in perfmon... Start > Run > Perfmon load the following counters for "Physical Disk": avg. disk /sec read avg. disk /sec write Both of these should be less than 0.0020 on average and spikes should be less than 0.0050 and spikes should be rare while Reaper is playing/recording. These are NOT Reaper specific specs but rather if you can meet these I don't "think" you have a disk issue access wise anyway, just a guess.. Karbo

Thormes, your problem interests me quite A LOT since I have the same problem as related in a thread that I made today. My problem may come from a routing that is too big. Is your own personal routing complex with many tracks (even if only few play at once) or not ? I have a 4-5%FX CPUS with a general 35 - 40% CPU use that entails cracks during the playback (even if very smal ones, I can already feel the instability coming). To mention. And a Q6600 quad Core with 2 GB RAM.

Reaper CPU meter calculates only that portion which Reaper uses, not the processes outside of reaper. Simple test: With quad core pc, put Prime95 running on one core. In windows task manager you can see about 25% cpu usage. Open Reaper and see the performance tab. There is no sign of the Prime95 cpu usage. That which Reaper performance tab shows, it is all happening inside Reaper, not the whole system. Cheers
