ReaScript/Python crashes under Lion (SOLVED)

Well, technically, this seems not to be a crash, but rather a premature exit. To Reproduce: - Bring up the Actions window. - Press the "ReaScript: New/load..." button. Reaper quits instantly, without a crash report window coming up. My system logs show this: Code:

I found a workaround that fixes it: 1. Download XCode from the App Store. 2. Run XCode and let it install itself. 3. Register to be an Apple Developer (!). 4. In XCode, go to Preferences/Downloads and install the "Command Line Tools". That won't be practical for everybody.

Bummer -- just ran into this myself. Any additional workarounds/fixes that don't involve a 3 GB download and a $99 registration fee? Edit: Just downloaded 4.22 and it didn't seem to fix it.

Please see . The problem is that OSX Lion (at least some versions, I thought this was fixed in more recent 10.7.x releases) ships with a faulty installation of Python 2.7. The workaround no longer requires editing the .ini file as suggested in that thread, you can simply edit the "custom path to dll directory" preference to point to 2.6 instead of 2.7.

It seems there is something definitely wrong here! OSX 10.7.4: I also had to install Xcode's command Line Tools to make ReaScript work (btw, thank you Steve for the workaround!) for the record, none of the tips in the link schwa posted above worked: specifying python 2.6 in REAPER.ini: KO, custom path in the prefs: KO, linking (sudo ln -sf) libpython.dylib to libpython.2.6.dylib: KO. It seems Python is installed in an incomplete way (no includes) on Lion whatever is the python version (and that seems voluntary from Apple?)
