Little crash if you yourself make a mistake...(solved!)

1. Load a song with a vsti that has the sounds on an external hdd you forgot to switch on. 2. You find the song without your sounds, think, oh, I think I could switch the external HDD on now! 3. Doing it - Reaper crashes. 4. Re-loading Reaper you get the usual asio-not found mistake, as Reaper isn't unloaded as a running process after the crash. 5. only possibility you have is to restart. Well, of course this is no "bug", as I could simply think to switch the external HDD on BEFORE... still, is there a way Reaper does not crash or that at least you don't need to restart Windows? AMD Turion dualcore 2.20GHz laptop here, 3GB Ram, Vista home premium, EdirolUA25.

Hi Steindork, I found this post a tad late (well, just 20 days, now was I fast:D) Sadly enough I tried what you describe since the first crash, and at least here on both of my machines the reaper.exe cannot be stopped with the task manager...(was with 3.0 until 3.02, I'll test if it is still here with the latest 3.03). Only a new boot killed the process... I had a similar problem with the old Orion4 years ago (is now 7.62), after the process the task manager could not stop the process and I had to restart. What I heard was only that "it was a midi problem", not really very specific...after they solved it.

If you can't end the process and your using an external sound card you can just unplug your sound card and plug it back in.BUT,be sure to turn off your speakers first.At least you won't need to reboot.

Hey, thanks! I should have known this, as I unplugged the edirol UA25 in many occasions - but I never did that after Reaper crashed... (and as I have to rely on headphones most of the time, thanks for the volume-down tip too :D) edit: emanresuym, of course that did the trick. By the way, in 3.03 I had a hard time even finding a song that would crash Reaper. I had a few suspects that crashed while starting, for example with flac files in it, in 3.00-3.02, but all of them loaded just fine now.
