RE: Hints for replacing dead starter on 740 diesel

hello george, i have never undertaken this particular job but would assume its straightforward enough, if you are a novice at this type of thing i would strongly advise obtaining a haynes or chiltern manual, giving yourself plenty of time and ensuring you have all the required tools available, if you follow the manual procedure verbatim you should complete the job im sure with very little trouble, happy in the knowledge the jobs been done correctly and at minimum expense, a little tip, make sure the starter solonoid connections are spotless and smear with a little silecone grease after reconnection, corrosion on these connectors often causes problems months in the future best of luck ron

Best done from underneath/on a ramp with the exhaust downpipe and clamp removed. All the best, Peter.
