Create this pitch drop effect using a macro?

I'm investigating reaper again. The macros are what caught my attention, they seem very powerful. I looked around for a while but couldn't find a way to do the following, perhaps an experienced reaper user can show how it could be done. Is is possible to create a macro that works in the following way: You've selected an audio clip. You trigger the macro, using processing commands or plugins, it creates the effect of a turntable slowing to a stop--a pitch-and-time linked slow down applied to the clip (for the moment i'm ignoring details such as how to specify end rate, or the duration of the slow down, or the shape of the tempo drop). Is something like this possible? I haven't seen a DAW yet in which its possible to set up a macro that can do this, I thought that reaper might be able to.

Totally possible but no need to use a macro. First open your Project settings and pick a decent Algo for the "Default Pitch Shift Mode" (I use elastique effecient) Next add ReaPitch to the FX chain for the track you want to effect Now, click on the envelopt (trm) button for that track and choose one of the "shift" options (like shift full range). Now add a node where you want the pitch change to start, and one where you want it to end, drag the ending down as far as you want the pitch to change and you are all set. Also if you want to do this to the entire song instead of an individual track, right click the Track Control Panel and choose "Show Master In Track View". Now open the envelopes for the master track (trm) and choose play rate and again add nodes and adjust the envelope where you want it to start/stop. This will give an even more realistic turntable effect as the play rate and pitch change together just like one truely slowing down.

Haven't tried it yet but Slower is a pitch drop vst and it's freeware. But bigwoody's approach also looks cool.

I actually want to create a macro for this because I would like to achieve this effect with a single button press, that's what i was wondering about--if it was possible. From your description it seems like modulating the master channel's play rate would be what i'd want; the macro would create a predefined play rate automation envelope shape at the cursor position (the shape would create the pitch drop), then it would 'bounce' the selected audio to a new clip/track, and finally remove the play rate automation it had created. I have a feeling this might not be possible via macros though, because of the envelope creation/deletion part.

Sounds cool. Always lots of ways to do stuff in Reaper. Mess around with the master playrate, ya it is a couple of clicks, but at least for me this is something I would only need to do occasionally so no big deal. If you really want that effect on a single track, you could always do as I described with the Master Play rate, solo just the track you want to effect and the render it to a new track and re-import. Maybe that is something you could write a macro for (I don't know I am definatly not the right guy to talk about that). Have fun!
