So I went to install PTLE 6.0 today....

When I ordered my upgrade last week, the rep said he would send PTLE 6.01. I said, "Whoa, no way. I just want 6.0 and I'll upgrade to 6.01 on my own." I've read all the posts here and it seems pretty clear from guys like dkrz that 6.01 has serious problems and that 6.0 is the way to go. The rep said "that's fine, I'll send 6.0." Today I opened up the package that I received yesterday only to find the 6.01 CD! Digi! Help! How do I get my hands on 6.0???

Why don't you first install the software and complain later if it actually gives troubles?

dans, I believe I have the exact same setup as you do (G4, dual 1.25 ghz, 2g ram, digi 001). Both version 6.0 and 6.01 have their quirks. I've used both. 6.01 is more stable. And if you want to use the full 2gig of ram, you need 6.01. Sure, the software crashes once in a while. I've never seen software that doesn't. I've managed and worked on huge ($155 million) software projects that crashed regularly. So be prepared: set your backups to run every five minutes, and save your session often. Don't get frustrated by the technology - the setup we have is the best bang for the buck out there. Software screws up. Aspian

I ran the demo session and quit out of it without any problems. I then opened up PT again, created a new session on a FW drive called "test". When I hit save, PT crashed; unexpectedly quit. Can I complain now, J. Guerrero? My PTLE 5.0, 5.01 and 5.1.1 crashed maybe 25 times in three years. Now I'm on 1 crash in 10 minutes. Did you guys see in the readme file where they say "If Pro Tools quits unexpectedly or if you force quit Pro Tools, restart your computer before re-launching Pro Tools"? I thought everyone was just re-launching the app? I thought that was the beauty of OSX's protected memory, like Win2K.

I apologize then for coming up with that answer. I really didn't know the 001 and PT 6 combo had so many issues. I think I'm really lucky with my setup. I also tried to reproduce all the MIDI bugs that you listed, and none of them are present using the Mbox and a third party MIDI interface... I quantized the chords from a MIDI track to an exact location and all the notes play. The trimming of selected notes using shift+click across three MIDI tracks is not erratic, it behaves correctly. If I close a session or the whole Pro Tools app, it also behaves correctly and it won't close with the unexpected quit message. And the last one I can't reproduce it for obvious reasons (don't have a 001 at home). I would suggest you guys to have a small drive partition with its dedicated OS and try all updates on it before installing them on your main OS partition. This way you can try it on the same machine you are using to check if the newest versions work correctly without compromising your main setup. Who knows, the next update might clear these bugs, or maybe they won't be present at all on your setup even if it's the same as other persons. Go for it, Dans. I say you have nothing to lose.

I think I found a typo in the PTLE 6.0.1 read me file. It says on page 3, "Fixes in Pro Tools TDM 6.0.1" Is the file wrong--meaning I'm reading incorrect info-- or should it read "Fixes in Pro Tools LE 6.0.1"? It's always nice to have new software on a new system crash in the first 10 minutes and then read errors in the documentation. BTW, yes, I read the read me first, but didn't catch this typo until re-reading it. It's going to be a long summer.
