Install the latest and greatest and enable plugin firewalling in preferences/VST. The last drop down box allows you to run all or some plugins in their own process. This will allow you to determine whether it is a plugin problem, or a reaper/hardware problem. Yves

Fantastic. Thanks. but do you mean "In Separate plugin process" or "In dedicated process per vst" ? With this selected, (whichever one is correct) if my entire session crahes again, I can completely rule out plugins? Would that include my Powercore plugins? ---------------------------------- Also- I immediately see that choosing "run In dedicated process per vst" causes a MASSIVE increase in cpu usage, almost double. This forces me to QUADRUPLE my HW buffer, and that is simply out of the question until a significantly faster cpu hits the market. I'm assuming this is the choice you meant, which really sucks. If I choose "Run in Separate plugin process" there is no cpu hit at all. Does this choice give me ANY added protection, vs the top "natively" default selection? Does this choice have some downside, vs "natively ? Where can I read more about these four choices?

You mention you installed a Powercore around the same time you started getting crashes. Is it an AMD system you are running? Is it a VIA chipset? Do the crashes only happen when the Powercore is heavily loaded?

No, captain. It's an Intel chip, and the Powercore is only running one single instance of one plugin.

Thanks, Cpt. I didn't know there were issues with Powercore. Before I purchased it, I asked here & on Gearslutz forums. I posted & posted, bumped & bumped, and could not get a single response other than a few folks who said it was OK. What specific info do you have on this? It would REALLY help me to know. As for the Lynx driver, yeah I'll re-install it, just in case. Good thought. Thanks.

Are you absolutely sure that the overclock is stable? I'm pretty sure you would have thought of that, but just checking. My ASUS mainboard w/phenom will crash at wierd times if the overclock is just a little too much. It may go weeks or hours, but if it's too much it will crash. I don't even know what a Powercore is, so I can't help there. Maybe remove it and really tax the system to it's max and try to eliminate that as the culprit... And I second the advice about backup hard drive images :D

Well, you can NEVER be 100% sure of an OC, but mine is very conservative, compared to what others are doing with the same chip. Also, I've run all three main stress tests for over 24 hrs each with no problems. -And last, It's only Reaper that's crashing, resulting (again) in a very loud, sustained buzzing. If the OC took out the cpu, there would be no audio coming out of my Lynx. I assume I either have a bad plugin, or I'm stressing the cpu - HW buffer thing. - But could the latter be true with less than 55% max cpu use? (no spikes) DOESN'T ANYONE KNOW THIS STUFF?
