MAP INPUT TO CHANNEL not working when step sequencing

Hi, I just discovered this amazing Reaper function, "Map Input to channel"...i mapped the shortcuts to "Map Input to channel 1/2/3/ etc etc " to my nanokontrol buttons and this is an amazing way of switching articulations for me, having set kontakt with different articulations on different channels... the only drawback I'm encountering is that this works fine when recording in real time, but when i use step sequencing (in the score or midi editors) everything is written on channel 1, despite the fact that i chose a different channel, and the fact that when inputting notes i HEAR the articulation that i chose...? for example i hear Staccato notes because i chose Channel 3 but in step sequencing those notes are written as channel 1, and if i want them on channel 3 i have to manually modify them afterwards. is this a bug? thanks a lot in advance for your support all the best -t

this is after "live" recording...all the different midi channels get recognised this is after step sequencing...everything gets recorded as channel 1 even if i'm recording channels 3-4 (and when recording it sounds as channel 3-4)

as a further consideration about this feature, i'm noticing that on a large template, there's a noticeable "lag" when using this function...I mean pressing the button to map channel 3 for example doesn't immediately work, and if i play on my keyboard i can still hear the previous channel playing, and sometimes i need to press the button again to make it work. this doesn't happen with fewer tracks in the project. hope this could be fixed somehow. thanks! -t

Confirmed, the native step recording features always preserves the original channel. As a workaround you could use my script "Step sequencing (replace mode)" (it's available in ReaPack) which follow the track's "Map to input channel" setting.

Hey, thank you for the advice! I installed via Reapack and see the actions in the action window. But the Run button is greyed out. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure a MIDI Editor is opened before switching to the MIDI Editor section in the Action List.
