Hi folks, my keyboarder has a little problem and as my knowledge concerning keyboards is quite modest i thought i'd redirect his question to the community here. Is it possible to use a Yamaha MOTIF ES in the following scenario, and if yes, how can it be done: - MIDI data (note on/off, note number 0-127) is sent on MIDI channel x to the MOTIF from Reaper/another keyboard - at the same time the MOTIF's own keyboard is used - the incoming MIDI should trigger sound A whereas the notes played on the MOTIF's keyboard should trigger sound B - would this even be possible with more than 2 sounds? (MIDI channel x -> sound A, MIDI channel y -> sound B, keyboard zone 1 -> sound C, keyboard zone 2 -> sound D) Thanks in advance. Best regards Blechi
Assuming I'm understanding you correctly, you could try the following, FWIW: Make sure you're in Song (multitimbral) mode, select a new song, hit the Mixing button, and press F2 (Voice tab in the display window). You should now see 16 separate MIDI channels, each to which you can assign a different voice or performance. So you could have your MIDI data from Reaper coming in on channel 1 triggering the instrument (voice) assigned to it. Next, assign another instrument to channel 2 and play the keyboard back to that channel (thereby triggering the voice). You could actually have 15 other voices being triggered my MIDI data in Reaper simultaneously while playing/recording the 16th voice. Now if you're talking about playing another keyboard through Reaper to a MIDI channel on the Motif (and recording the non-Motif keyboard at the same time), that I don't know. I do know you can send MIDI to the Motif via another keyboard and trigger whatever voice is assigned to the MIDI channel you're using. But through Reaper? I'm happy to be wrong...but I kind of doubt it. But playing back MIDI data recorded from another keyboard (the MIDI data doesn't care where it came from) and sending it to a MIDI channel on the Motif while performing on a separate channel, no problem. And as to the 'keyboard zone 1 -> sound C, keyboard zone 2 -> sound D' stuff, don't know much about that either. Hope that was a little helpful :) Regards, DB
