Recording VSTi

How can I record VSTi synth so that audio and midi get recorded on separate tracks and that the midi can be replayed back to VSTi? Now when I set for example some soft synth on one track and start recording, it records only midi. I can route audio output on some other track, but not record it. When I right click the track and select "Apply track fx to item as new take", the audio track is created but it's combined with midi and I can't reuse the midi take anymore. If I have recorded also the plain midi to separate track that's not connected to VSTi, that track gets converted in the same way neverthless. When I record hardware keyboards via regular inputs, I always record audio and midi to separate tracks so that I can re-record the exactly same take by sending midi track to keyboard midi in so I don't have to play the same thing again if I for example want to change the used sample. What I'm basically trying to figure out here is how to do the same with VSTi synths. Thanks in advance.

Make a new track next you your midi instrument track.Call it say RecMidi for ease. Now click on your Instrument tracks I/O button and choose to make a new send.Pick the RecMidi Track. Now on the ReMidi track right click on the record button and choose Record: output/ record: output(stereo). Now choose say a loop of four bars as test and start recording from that point to get used to the idea and the volumes you need to set to get a decent level. HTH :)

That did the trick, tried something similar but couldn't figure out the logic with recording sends. Thanks a lot!
