External Effects

How do I setup external effects? Do I make a track that has input and output of that device then make the actual track send to that one? Also, how do I have that track maintain its settings; for example: I find the sound Im looking for, then I dont want to have to make those same seetings on my outboard device again. I just want the wave file created. Thanks for the help, Surf

aux tracks. yes, send the track you want affected to the aux with the external board set up as the aux input.

Im a little confused about the I/O setup....can you elaborate on it??

Connect your external device to lets say inputs 7&8 and outputs 7&8 (doesnt matter wich ones you use, as long as they have the same number (input 7&8 together with output 7&8...). Then go and apply a plugin, but frst you get that little window. There you have to choose "hardware insert", and you can choose an input/output pair. That's it....the audio of the track is now routed outwards, and routed inwards again before it hits the channel-fader. You WILL get a little latency though, and this is roughly twice the length of your h/w-buffersize. I use the s/pdif i/o for an fx loop on my 002R.
