iPad/iPhone Interface

I had an opportunity to do a live gig yesterday with a sound company that runs all the latest Presonus gear for their FOH, and it gave me an idea. For those that haven't seen it, Presonus makes an interface that broadcasts their Studio Live series boards over a network to allow mixing from an iPad and a separate interface that broadcasts the Aux channels for performers to mix their own monitors. I'm wondering if there's a way to do this with Reaper for headphone mixing. Something like this: 1. Choose a Send (or Sends) to publish. 2. Allow a user with an iPad or iPhone the ability to mix channels assigned to that send. And, that's basically it. Now, I realize that there would be some fairly esoteric setup involved- for instance, I have an M-Audio 2626 in my studio, and I have routed my extra outputs for use with an external mixer in my performance room. That gives me a single pair for "main" monitoring (click and talkback) and I have 4 extra outs that I have running to the room's wall pocket that I run into 4 separate channels on the external mixer, for a total of 5 individual channels to mix. Works well, and I've even gone so far as to change my default template to always have those routes available on new projects. BUT- I have to remember to route the channels properly. I realize that this would take some thought for implementation, but I'm wondering if any of the devs who might see this would think it's doable or want to do it. I have used the Reaper HTTP server for control surface use, and it works pretty well (kinda clunky) but something like this- even another HTTP server for use with managing monitoring - is something I haven't seen any other DAW do natively. So- am I crazy here? What do you guys think?

I've used the web interface to do just that - Set up mixes so that musician's can mix their own IEMs. However, it is tied to a template, I can't move channels around and if something new is added, I have to change the code. The good thing about it being in HTML is that it is cross platform compatible - I don't own an i-anything. This can also probably done simply by just using a midi control surface app, and map the midi to the aux sends, just like you would with a digital console that you use as a control surface. In the end though, I've only ever used this once, and the only case for it is when you are using IEM's. I would never give a musician on stage control over floor wedges of sidefills as the vast majority of them can't seem to find the proper volume for their instrument amps.

Well, I'm not talking about live sound. Maybe I should have made that clearer. I would like to see if there is a way / any interest in having Reaper offer the ability to be able to let people mix their own monitors in the STUDIO, natively. And, for the record- I've been a Reaper user since 2006, and I know full well that it basically kicks <insert body part/area here> on all comers. I, too, have used the HTTP/HTML route and interface, and it does work pretty well, but the trouble is that it's a single mix that is adjusted for all talent. I was thinking of something more like being able to tell the performers, "Ok, Mr. Singer, you're on Send #1; Mr. Drummer, you're on Send #2" and they could adjust their own mixes separate from each other. This is a feature that the HTML interface is lacking. (It also wasn't designed for that.) Does that make sense?

Single mix? I run 10 monitor mixes. Usually 5 are in-ear. They are all unique mixes - what makes you think there are these restrictions? I've tried TouchOSC for the above but I don't like it as it's much too slow and clunky. iTeleport is my current remote desktop app. Haven't tried the web interface thing. I think it would be pretty easy to do what we are doing on stage in a studio setting. In fact it is because I do just that! Typical musician scenario: (His vocal is currently the loudest thing in his in-ear mix.) (Doesn't notice the volume control on his controller pack is low.) "Hey can you turn my vocals up" Don't get me wrong. I'm a musician myself (required for this job) and this guy is intelligent and accomplished. Careful out there.

Not that it helps Reaper users, but Logic X now has a free dedicated iPad app that appears to have pretty much 100% control of Logic remotely. Downloaded it, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Scott

I guess I'm not making myself clear here. Not looking for control of Reaper like a control surface. Looking for a way to allow USERS to control LEVELS (and maybe panorama) going into SENDS to be able to mix their own headphone levels. There are hardware solutions for this like Aviom, Hear Technologies and Behringer even offers one. Presonus does this through software that runs for their Studio series boards: This is NOT a control surface/remote desktop/recording control question or feature set I'm talking about here.
