how can I clean up vinyl audio

i have a few tracks in vinyl form that i wish to import into my computer and clean up the hiss and imperfections of vinyl. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about doing this. I am new to protools and am currently using pro tools free on my mac.

There are plug-in's that you can get that "clean up" audio pulled from vinyl. Haven't used any of 'em myself, though. Personally I wouldn't tweak something like that much if at all unless it was for an effect. Do you have your inputs figured out? What's your hardware setup?

I am using the audio line input on my 667 apple powerbook. I just installed protools free so i am a begginer at all of this. Thanks for all your help If any one has any suggestions for "cleaning up" the audio from vinyl please drop me a line.
